Nala | Paul Melgoza
“I adopted Nala, then about 4-yrs-old, about 8 months ago, and I immediately put her on a brand of dog food that came highly recommended by the dog food specialty store and friends. Things went pretty well, but a recurring monthly episode of diarrhea, sometimes bloody, began to evolve, which made for a rather unpleasant surprise after work. And that usually prompted a few days to a week of rice and canned chicken. I took her to the vet twice for the bloody stool, and there were no parasites found. The vet put her on antibiotics and probiotics.
Thinking that I needed to settle on a single protein rather than changing the food every 3 weeks or so to another flavor variety of the same brand, I settled on chicken. The problem persisted, and I thought that perhaps it might be a food intolerance issue with the variety of dog treats that I was giving her. So I stopped all treats, and waited. Things were good for about 3 weeks or more and then it happened again. This time I tried goat’s milk, heralded for its inherent health benefits. After a few days the bloody diarrhea returned, prompting another visit to the vet and another round of antibiotics, probiotics, rice and chicken. Two months ago I created what I call the hazmat area, a corner of the living room near the patio door covered with dog potty pads taped together. It was my hope that she would use them to save me the mess and time of a future clean-up.
The next time the diarrhea occurred for about the 6th time, I called the vet’s office to ask for advice. They suggested that I try a hypoallergenic dog food, and they gave me several brand names. While Zignature was not one of the recommendations, I started doing research. In short, I liked the overall concept of the food composition and testimonials from others who have experienced similar issues. Additionally, the use of exotic proteins was something that I felt would be extremely beneficial for her digestive health.
Nala has been on Zignature whitefish (dry) now for 8 days, and not only does she absolutely love the food, but she is far more regular. For the last week she has had at least two bowel movements per day, and three for the last two days. Before Zignature two in one day was something that might happen once or twice a week. Daddy and Nala are very, very happy. I have kangaroo and guinea fowl varieties for her as well. We could not be happier!”
